Volkswagen smashed one million sales barrier in September

The Volkswagen Group has reported a new record sales month with the auto giants smashing through the one million vehicle barrier.

In September, Volkswagen Group, which includes the Volkswagen brand, Skoda, Audi, Porsche, Scania etc. delivered a mammoth 1.01 million vehicles to global customers.

That makes September the best month in Volkswagen history.

The September 2017 total for the Volkswagen Group was also up 6.6% on the same month last year, while year to date sales, totalling more than 78 million, are 2.6% up on the 2016 total for the same period.

Every brand in the family, except Porsche, enjoyed additional sales.

Fred Kappler, Head of Volkswagen Group Sales, welcomed the record sales result.

“This record result demonstrates the strength of the Volkswagen Group. Vehicles from our brands are thrilling more and more customers worldwide – our new SUVs in particular are very popular.”

Individually, here’s how the Volkswagen Group brands performed in September:

  • Volkswagen Passenger Cars – 593,700 (+8.4%)
  • Audi – 178,400 (+2.6%)
  • Skoda – 112,900 (+5.4%)
  • SEAT (not available in Australia) – 39,800 (+11.2%)
  • Porsche – 20,800 (-5.3%)
  • Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles – 44,600 (+3.4%)

As reported here, Volkswagen Group’s two truck/bus brands – MAN (+14.8%) and Scania (+11.2%) also enjoyed solid sales gains in September.
