American publication Automobile has named the Volkswagen Golf R on its 2016 list of All-Stars for the very first time.
The Golf R was selected based on a combination of its performance, practicality and value chosen from staff preferences.
The hot hatch was in good company, joined by the likes of the Porsche Cayman GT4, Mazda MX-5 Miata and the McLaren 570S.
Fitted with a four-cylinder TSI 2.0 litre turbo engine that pushes out 380Nm of torque, the VW Golf R also has plenty of space for five adults and more to spare in the boot.
VW Car-Net technology is also available along with safety systems such as autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, forward collision warning and rear traffic alert.
Editor in Chief, Mike Floyd was impressed by the Golf R and it’s all round appeal and ability.
“The VW Golf R wowed us with its potent performance on both the road and the track but more than that, it’s also an incredibly practical package.”
