Volkswagen will have an electric-drive van available for families, surfers, campers and possibly delivery drivers by 2022.
Confirmed over the weekend, the electric Volkswagen ‘microbus’ will be based somewhat on the I.D. Buzz concept (seen above and below) that was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show.

The van could be the ideal electric vehicle with a flat floor for the battery packs and enabling maximum passenger/cargo space, according to Volkswagen.
The van will also hope to cash in on the legacy, and continued popularity, of the classic Volkswagen ‘buses’ of the past.
Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess made the announcement in the spiritual home of the VW bus – Californbia.
“After the presentations at the global motor shows in Detroit and Geneva, we received a large number of letters and emails from customers who said, ‘please build this car’.”
Set to be built in Germany and exported to a number of markets, there’s been no word yet on the van coming to Australia.
“The vehicle looks like a compact commercial van on the outside, even though it offers the generous interior space of a large SUV,” said Mr Diess.
It’s believed the van will also have autonomous driving capabilities, though still being more than four years away we are yet to know key technical info.
We will bring you more details on the future Volkswagen electric van in coming years.
