Australian new car market drops 5.5% in the month.
Toyota was once again the nation’s top-selling car brand last month and its iconic small car offering – Corolla was again the most popular new car choice among Australian buyers.
Official car sales data for the month shows a worrying 5.5% drop in sales compared to August 2013, in all 88,157 new cars left Australian dealerships in the month.
Despite four of the top five biggest sellers in the month being passenger cars, that segment recorded an 11.2% drop in sales (or 5,402 vehicles), SUV and commercial vehicle sales however were flat.
Overall, sales for the first eight months of the year are down 2.5% on 2013.

- Mazda3 (3,124)
- Toyota Hilux (2,918)
- Hyundai i30 (2,651)
- Holden Commodore (2,344)

- Toyota (17.7%)
- Holden and Hyundai (both 9.8%)
- Mazda (8.5%)
- Ford (7.8%)
