Toyota retailers accused of selling suspect air-bag components.
Toyota Australia has just released a statement confirming it has commenced proceedings against two independent retailers over the sale of allegedly counterfeit air-bag parts.
Toyota has conducted a six month investigation into the practices of the two unnamed retailers and now accuses them of selling counterfeit air-bag spiral cables and advertising them as genuine Toyota parts.
The car company saying in their statement that they have tested and found that the allegedly counterfeit air-bag spiral cables are of inferior quality.
Toyota says this poses a number of potential risks to customers, however the statement reassures Toyota owners that the spiral cable would only have been replaced if their vehicle was involved in an accident and the air-bag deployed.
