Subaru confirms BRZ affected by power steering recall

A recall that has affected thousands of Toyota 86 vehicles in Australia, will also include the Subaru BRZ.

Subaru Australia confirming this afternoon that the sister vehicle of the 86 will also require the replacement of a power steering electronic control unit and wire harness.

In total, 3016 MY 2013-15 BRZ models will be recalled.

As with the Toyota recall, Subaru advises that there is a possibility that the vehicle may develop a poor connection between the resolver harness and the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) of the Electric Power Steering (EPS).

This poor electrical connection may cause the vehicle to lose power assistance for the steering.

This loss of power steering assistance will increase the steering effort.

It is important to note that even if the power assistance for the steering is lost, the vehicle retains manual steering capability, according to Subaru.

Affected BRZ owners will be contacted soon by Subaru Australia and more info is available from the Subaru Customer Service Centre on 1300 550 994.
