Second recall this week for Actros

Another recall for the Mercedes-Benz Actros has been initiated, the second announced this week, this time a possible steering shaft issue needs to be addressed.

The recall is being overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and affects the Mercedes-Benz Actros 963.

Is your Actros involved in the recall? Check your VIN here.

In total, 108 trucks sold in Australia are being recalled.

The recall notice advises that defective steering shafts may have been installed in certain vehicles.

These steering shafts may have insufficient tooth flank depth in the serrations for the required power transmission between steering column and steering shaft.

What are the hazards?

This may result in the connection between steering column and steering shaft slipping, impairing vehicle steerability, increasing the risk of accident.

What should consumers do?

Affected Actros owners are requested to contact an authorised Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle Dealership to have their vehicle inspected and if required, have the steering shaft replaced.

Earlier in the week it was announced that a small number of Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks sold in Australia were being recalled to fix a possible issue with the radar sensor, which works as part of the Active Brake Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control systems.
