Stats confirm car owners blasé about safety checks

Less than half of motorists check their tyres even once a month…

It will probably come as no surprise but car owners have again been found to be often less than enthusiastic about checking over their cars.

A study commission by the Kwik Fit auto servicing chain in the UK found safety checks are rare among car owners with less than half of motorists (44%) going to the trouble of checking their cars tyre pressures at least once a month.

13% of car owners check the air pressures every two months.

The study also finding that more than one in thirteen drivers (8%) admit to never checking their tyres are inflated correctly.

One in eight (12%) never check their tyre tread depth, and a third (36%) of drivers said they never check the pressure in their spare tyre.

Kwik Fit’s Roger Griggs says simple checks won’t take you more than a couple of minutes.

“Prevention is always better, and cheaper, than cure,”
