The July Australian car sales data is in and once again it was a double win for Toyota, the Japanese brand staying on top in both the model and manufacturer races.

In total, 92,754 new vehicle transactions were completed in the month, 1.,6% ahead of the same month in 2016.

That total marks the best July result ever recorded.

Across the full first seven months of the year Australian car sales are ahead by 0.4% with total sales sitting at 692,306.

The big movers among the different segments include small and medium SUVs, up 15.3% and 18.6%respectively.

People mover sales were also up 12.7%.

Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) chief, Tony Weber, says the results show the market remains on track for a new sales record in 2017.

“This July figure demonstrates the industry’s ability to deliver products which are not only good value but cater specifically for the changing needs of Australian customers,”

“The steady rise in small and medium SUV sales are indicative of our market’s changing dynamic and manufacturers are moving quickly to meet those new needs and expectations.”
