Sono Motors might not be a brand you’re immediately familiar with, but that could change in coming years.
Founded by Laurin Hahn, Jona Christians, and Navina Pernsteiner in Germany in 2016, the trio decided to develop a solar-powered electric car model called the Sion.
The Sion’s performance is pretty impressive, it boasts a top speed of 140 km/h and an engine output of 81kW.
Features of the Sion
The Sion solar car costs about $25,000 USD.
The price of the vehicle was set at that so as to ensure it can be available to as many people as possible. The average price of other electric cars being approximately $40,000, the Sion is considerably cheaper.
The Sion has a length of 4.11m, a width of 1.79m, a height of 1.68m and weighs 1400kg.
It is fitted with a single gear transmission and a rear wheel drive. It has a capacity to carry five passengers.
To promote safety while driving, it is fitted with anti-lock brakes, airbags for both driver and passenger coupled up with alarm equipment.
The Sion electric car comes with a two year/10,000km warranty.
The Sion’s Charging Capabilities
The Sion comes with a battery that costs about $6,500. This fee can be paid all at once at a discounted price or via monthly installments.
It comes with a CCS connector system that can be used to charge the battery up to 80% in 40 minutes.
Using the sun takes half a day to fully charge the battery.
With a fully charged battery, the Sion can cover a distance of 250 km.
It is also fitted with 330 integrated solar cells that can recharge the battery allowing it to ride for a distance of about 30 km. This particular feature is named visono.
Additionally, the Sion is fitted with a Bisono feature which allows the car’s battery to be charged and at the same time supply energy of about 6.6kw.
This energy can be used to charge all electric appliances with energy usage of up to 2.7kw as well as another Sion car.
Sono motors under its flagship project the Sion electric car are committed to a future with minimal emissions of carbon monoxide to the environment.
With global warming levels at an all-time high, Sono Motors believe other car manufacturers need to jump on this zero-emission bandwagon and follow in their footsteps.
We will bring you updates around Australian availability of the Sion in Australia as further details come to hand.
