Listener Marty is considering purchasing an Isuzu MU-X.

Hey Chris and Peter, I catch you each week via 2BH Broken Hill. I’m thinking of buying a new Isuzu MU-X.
I need seven seats and want a diesel, before I go put my money down can you think of any affordable options?
Chris Miller – You would be hard pressed to go wrong with the Isuzu MU-X, which is of course is based on the Isuzu D-MAX ute. It has genuine off-road ability with a low range transfer case and will go just about anywhere.
It’s a reasonably good looking 4×4 too, has a really good Isuzu engine and, although the interior is a bit hard and cold, this probably puts it in good stead for wear and tear into the future for you.
Other options aside from the Isuzu include Holden Colorado 7 – though the Isuzu is a better offering, Toyota Prado (a more expensive offering than the Isuzu MU-X) and the soon to arrive new Toyota Fortuner which is based on the all-new Toyota HiLux.
Peter Hitchener – There’s nothing wrong with the Isuzu Marty. To be completely different though, why not hang out until the new Ford Everest arrives? It’s based on the Ford Ranger and looks the goods. Yes, it will cost you more but it might be worth a test drive.
As Chris said though, check out the Toyota Fortuner, could be a good alternative before you make the final decision.
