Child protection system installed
No word yet on when we will see the system in Australia, however Nissan Pathfinder SUVs in the U.S. will soon boast a clever ‘Rear Door Alert’ feature.
Confirmed this morning by Nissan in the U.S., the system was designed by two mums, both Nissan employees – Elsa Foley and Marlene Mendoza.
The duo, an industrial engineer and mechanical engineer respectively, wanted to find a way to ensure parents didn’t accidentally leave their children in the car.
“We pushed each other along and knew we were on the right track one morning when Marlene discovered she had left a pan of lasagne in the back seat of her car,” said Foley.
“The worst thing was the car smelled for days, but it made me ask myself, ‘what if that had been something else back there?”
As the video shows, the Nissan Rear Door Alert system uses a series of distinctive honks as the driver is walking away from the vehicle…
Rear Door Alert will come as standard equipment on the 2018 Nissan Pathfinder SUV from next month (in the U.S), and on other Nissan models in the coming years (Australian models TBA).
