Porsche airbag fault recall launched

A total of just five Porsche sports cars are affected by a recall launched by the German sports car today.

Those affected cars, Porsche 718 series (Cayman/Boxster) and Porsche 911, carry the following VINs:

  • WP0ZZZ98ZHS212343
  • WP0ZZZ98ZHS212349
  • WP0ZZZ98ZHS231883
  • WP0ZZZ98ZHS231884
  • WP0ZZZ99ZHS114357

The recall notice advises that there is a possibility that front side airbags in those vehicles may have been fitted with incorrect detonator units.

The ACCC says this was due to a supplier’s manufacturing error.

In the event of an accident in which the restraint systems are triggered, their full protective effect may be impaired and as a result may increase risk to vehicle occupants.

Owners of those affected Porsche vehicles will be contacted by mail and phone and given instruction on how to organise the replacement of the front side airbags.
