Nürburgring lap record for Honda Civic Type R

Nürburgring lap record for Honda Civic Type R

Front-wheel drive lap record falls to sporty new Honda Civic…

It is certainly one of the most keenly-anticipated new offerings in Honda‘s long history, now the 2018 Honda Civic Type R has added a Nürburgring lap record to its arsenal.

The sporty new variant of the 10th generation Honda Civic only debuted officially last month at the Geneva Motor Show (details here).

Now the Type R has managed to smash the front-wheel drive lap record on the famed race track with a time of 7 minutes 43.80 seconds

Honda Civic Type R lead chassis engineer, Ryuichi Kijima, says the Type R is ready to delight buyers looking for a true sports model.

“The cornering speed achieved in the new Type R is higher because the car features a wider track and tyres, a longer wheelbase, new multi-link suspension in the rear and optimised aerodynamics that improves stability,”

“For example, drivers typically enter the corner after Metzgesfeld at around 150 km/h.

“Even at this medium-speed corner, the speed is around 10 km/h higher due to the new Type R’s excellent stability.

“So, with improved cornering performance, we can increase the speed throughout the lap, helping the new Type R to achieve a much quicker lap time.”

We will bring you Australian availability, pricing and final specification details for the 2018 Honda Civic Type R when they come to hand.
