Tiny car even stretches into an optional four-door…
It’s been the subject of some ridicule and the butt of a few jokes, but the smart fortwo looks to have a secure future after being given a new look and a four-door version too!
Unveiled today in Europe, Australian pricing and specification details for the new model are yet to be confirmed.
What we do know is that the new model will continue to have the engine in the rear and there will be three engine grades.
The output of the three-cylinder power plants is 45kW, 52kW and 66kW, transmission choices remain at either five-speed manual or dual-clutch auto.
The ‘stretched’ variant with four-doors will be known, as you would expect, as the forfour! It measures in at 3.49 metres in length, a full 90cm longer than the two-door version.
Annette Winkler is the CEO of smart; she says the new model continues the brands unique attractions.
“No-one combines’ functionality and emotion as well as we do, as the inventors of individual urban mobility.
“The new smart fortwo and forfour adopt the proven concept while offering more of just about everything – more space, more colour, more equipment … and even more fun in the city!”
We will keep you updated on Australian availability and other details as they come to hand.
