The top-selling BMW 5 Series will soon welcome a new seventh-generation model with production about to commence in Germany.
BMW tell us the new 5 Series will begin rolling off the production line at its production facility in Lower Bavaria before the end of the year and the first customer deliveries will commence early next year.
That facility already produces around 350,000 vehicles annually, including BMW 3 Series, 4 Series, 6 Series and 7 Series cars.
While BMW has also contracted Austrian manufacturer, Magna Steyr, to build additional units of the new 5 Series as well.
That group will commence production from early next year at its plant in Graz, Southern Austria.
Magna Steyr has previously built the X3 SUV for BMW and currently builds the MINI Countryman and the MINI Paceman for the BMW Group.
Oliver Zipse is the boss of Production at the BMW Group, he says he’s confident production at the two facilities will be able to meet the anticipated strong demand for the new 5 Series.
“The high level of flexibility within our global production network and reliable cooperation with our partner, Magna Steyr, will enable us to respond swiftly to the strong customer demand we anticipate for the world’s most successful business limousine.”
While Dingolfing Plant Manager, Josef Kerscher, says the bulk of the BMW 5 Series models will be produced in Dingolfing.
“We are delighted to have a highly-professional partner like Magna Steyr produce this successful model for us.
“They will certainly benefit from our years of experience building the BMW 5 Series: Our staff here in Dingolfing will work very closely with the plant in Graz.”
