Mercedes-Benz ML and G-Class recalled over seatbelt issue

A recall of current series Mercedes-Benz G-Class 4x4s and ML-Class SUVs has been initiated after it was found a fault could lead to a possibly dangerous seatbelt issue.

The recall is being overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and affects vehicles sold in Australia between the 1st of June 2015 and the 31st of March 2016.

The recall notice advises that incorrect software coding within the front passenger seat occupancy recognition control unit may result in the airbag system not recognizing an occupant in the front passenger seat.

In the event of an accident this may result in the front passenger airbag not deploying resulting in an increased risk of injury.

Mercedes-Benz ML and G-Class recalled over seatbelt issueLetters will be sent to owners of affected Mercedes-Benz G-Class and ML-Class vehicles and will be advised of what their next steps are in obtaining a repair.
