McLaren GT boss says his team will only improve in GT events in 2016.
It was a stunningly successful weekend for the McLaren team after securing pole position, fastest lap, overall race win and a new lap record.
And Andrew Kirkaldy, Managing Director of McLaren GT, says this is just the start for the high profile manufacturer in 2016.
The 2016 Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour was won by the McLaren 650S GT3 of customer team Tekno Autosports and piloted by Alvaro Parente, Shane Van Gisbergen and Jonathon Webb. In a fascinating race, five different manufacturers lead the race over the 12 hours.
While top driving from Van Gisbergen and well-calculated fuel stop strategy helped the McLaren, on its debut appearance at Mount Panorama, storm home for the win.
Kilkady telling Behind the Wheel Motorsport News that the result puts McLaren on the edge of a terrific 2016.
“A huge congratulations has to go to the Tekno team and each of the drivers for achieving the clean sweep of pole, fastest lap and the race win.
“On top of that, the official race lap record and the distance record with 297 laps completed, so not a bad first outing for the 650S GT3 and for the first event with Tekno and McLaren GT working together.”
