The giant Indian car, SUV, commercial vehicle and agricultural vehicle manufacturer, Mahindra & Mahindra, has confirmed it will build a new state of the art production facility in Detroit.
The new Michigan plant will cover more than 400,000 square-feet with the announcement warmly welcomed by the city.
A new vehicle manufacturing plant hasn’t been built in Detroit in more than a quarter of a century and the city is reeling from the cutback of local vehicle manufacturing in recent decades.
Mahindra tell us they intend to build off-road utility vehicles at the plant.
At this stage though there is no firm date on when the vehicles would start rolling off the Detroit production line, we will keep you updated.
Mahindra has long had entering the U.S. market on its agenda, an initial operation established around a decade ago ended up being shelved after a falling out with a U.S. distributor.
In more recent times though Mahindra has made a permanent commitment to the U.S. by establishing its North American automotive headquarters in Michigan.
This facility employs design, engineering and vehicle development experts.
We will keep you updated with further news on the new Mahindra Detroit production plant as further details come to hand.
