Updated U.S.-built electric bus debuts

New Flyer of America Electric Transit Bus

An updated version of the New Flyer Xcelsior CHARGE electric bus has debuted this week in the U.S.

Offered to transport operators in North America since 2014, the updated bus boasts improved design, performance, and technological advancement, according to transit bus and motor coach manufacturer, New Flyer of America Inc.

The latest version of the bus is being offered in 35, 40, and 60-foot articulated bus (carrying up to 83 passengers) rapid transit models and boasts a drive range of around 200 miles (320km) from a single charge.

The updated version gets improved step height, expanded front door width, and redesigned entry ramp with 1:7 ratio.

New Flyer boast the American-built Xcelsior CHARGE can tackle even the steepest hills in San Francisco.

New Flyer president, Wayne Joseph, says the electric bus just can’t be beaten.

“We’re working hard to provide transit authorities and their passengers with more attractive transportation options that they can feel good about,”

“Passengers will experience the quietest and most accessible transit bus ride available.”

No word at this stage on the New Flyer product being offered in Australia, though we will keep you updated as further info comes to hand.
