We reported last week that BMW and Great Wall Motors were reportedly talking about teaming up to build electric cars for China.
Now comes an update from one side of the prospective partnership – Great Wall Motors.
A media statement released by the Chinese auto giants says that while talks have taken place with BMW, at this stage there is no signed agreement between the two manufacturers in regards to producing cars together.
Great Wall tell us they entered into an agreement with BMW last April that involved looking into the feasibility of research and development of battery electric vehicles and traditional power vehicles.
A second agreement signed in February this year between the Chinese and German concerns covers only discussion and evaluation on the feasibility of co-operating to produce vehicles under the MINI brand.
Other than those agreements, Great Wall say there is no other related agreement with BMW.
We will keep you updated as any further info on these talks comes to hand.
