Nearly 43,000 Ford Focus cars sold in Australia are being recalled to fix a possibly dangerous fuel tank issue.
The recall is being overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and involves Ford Focus vehicles built between the 12th of April 2011 and the 29th of September 2015.

The recall notice advises that certain Focus vehicles under particular environmental conditions may ingest excessive levels of dust, which may block the carbon canister during a purge cycle.
This could cause the fuel tank to reach vacuum levels that exceed design limits.
What are the hazards?
If this condition is not corrected, the fuel tank may crack, resulting in a fuel leak.
A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can lead to a fire.
What should owners do?
Ford Australia will write to owners of affected vehicles asking them to contact their local Ford dealership for an inspection and rectification.
