Ford Mustang declared World’s Favourite Sports Car

Ford says Mustang was the number one selling sports car in 2016…

Despite the bad news around the Australian crash test performance of the model, there is no denying the current Ford Mustang has been an incredibly popular offering.

Already the top-selling sports car in Australia, Ford tell us that globally it is also the sports car that is gaining the most sales.

Ford analysis of IHS Markit new vehicle registration data in the sports car segment shows more than 150,000 Mustangs were delivered to customers in 2016.

That figure was 6% ahead of the model’s 2015 sales and included more than 45,000 Ford Mustang sales outside of the U.S.

Many of those export market sales were in Europe where the Mustang is the leading sports car in markets including France, Sweden, Poland, Finland and Greece.

Roelant de Waard from Ford of Europe says it’s been a huge success.

“From the Arctic Circle to the Mediterranean, the Ford Mustang has topped the sports car sales charts in markets across Europe.”
