Ford has shown off an updated version of the Focus ST at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the United Kingdom.

While exterior styling looks pretty much the same as the current model, the next edition will have something very different under the bonnet – an optional diesel engine.

Boasting 136kW and 400Nm, the 2.0 litre diesel promises fuel consumption as low as 3.6L/100kms! No wonder Ford in the UK is billing it as their most fuel efficient and lowest CO2 emitting performance car ever!

The suspension has also been tweaked in the Focus ST and it picks up new 19” Michelin tyres, which they say deliver better grip.

Inside the cabin, Ford say they have simplified the layout and added new driver assistance and connectivity features including SYNC 2 connectivity and a high-resolution 8-inch colour touch screen.

The new Ford Focus ST will start to arrive in European dealerships early next year, as yet Australian pricing and specifications, including whether the diesel will be offered here, are yet to be confirmed.
