Quality on the up says FCA

Expect to find better quality and a nicer finish in your next Jeep, Alfa Romeo, Dodge, Fiat or Chrysler vehicle.

That’s the promise from the head of quality at parent company, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA).

While the giant car manufacturer has made some interesting and enjoyable cars in recent years, think Jeep Grand Cherokee, Alfa Romeo Giulia and Chrysler 300, quality control has sometimes been an issue.

For example, we covered 13 Jeep recalls in 2016 alone!

But FCA’s head of quality, Scott Garberding, says things are improving.

Speaking to Automotive News in the U.S., Garberding says internal tests and third-party studies show things are on the improve.

“Today we’re in a far better place than where we were seven years ago, when very few people were betting we would make it,”

“Our consumers expect top quality, and they’ll turn to our competition, frankly, if we don’t deliver.”

Proving the companies point, FCA brands including Jeep, Dodge and Chrysler all scored below the industry average of 97 problems per 100 vehicles in the latest J.D. Power Initial Quality Study.

While Chrysler was found to be the most improved brand in the recent J.D. Power U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study.

“We know there’s a lot of work to do but we’re encouraged because our products have improved and they’re continuing to improve,” he said.

“All of our employees are engaged and are taking ownership of quality from initial design to production and interactions with customers.”
