There has been a slight increase in the percentage of people confident that self-driving vehicle technology is safe.
The 2019 Deloitte Global Automotive Consumer Study involved 25,000 respondents across 20 countries and found about half of those surveyed would be happy to share the roads with driverless vehicles.
The result comes as most major truck and car manufacturers continue to invest in autonomous driving technology, with many now adding increased self-driving capabilities into their vehicles.
Having roughly 50% of consumers confident in the tech is a minor improvement on the 47% who believed they would be safe a year ago.
It is believed confidence would have been higher had it not been for some well-publicised incidents involving autonomous vehicles in the past 12 months.
While there was less trust in OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) when it comes to making safe and reliable self-driving vehicles.
In the U.S. the percentage of consumers confident in OEMs was just 39%, down from 47% a year ago.
In Germany that percentage was just 33%, down from 51% in 2018.
Conversely, the survey found strong support for increased technology to aid human drivers.
Connected features such as traffic congestion tracking and road safety alerts were popular with more than 70% of U.S. consumers.
