The BMW 5 Series based ALPINA B5 has been confirmed for Australia.
Powered by a BMW 4.4 litre bi-turbo V8 engine, the ALPINA boasts a 0-100km/h time of just 3.5 seconds. In total, the tweaked engine delivers 447kW and 800Nm of torque.
BMW/ALPINA telling us the power unfolds smoothly, and offers excellent throttle response for effortless acceleration.
The extra power and torque comes from a range of tweaks, including revised air intake and optimised turbo configuration.
There’s also a high-performance cooling system in the B5.
While the offering also boasts a stainless steel ALPINA sports exhaust system with two twin tailpipes.
To match the grunt, ALPINA has also bolted on to the B5 revised, and lowered sports suspension, beefed-up brakes, light-weight 20” alloy wheels and Pirelli tyres.
And, the biggest inclusion, rear-wheel steering!
The electromechanical set-up offering up to 2.5 degrees of turn, at lower speeds the system turns the rear wheels in the opposite direction to the front wheels.
At higher speeds, the rear wheels steer in the same direction as the front wheels “for improved high speed and directional stability”.
“Timeless” ALPINA interior trims are also on offer.
