The 2016 Behind the Wheel Car of the Year Award will be chosen from a field of eleven new/updated models.
Our four judges have all put forward their field of the best cars they’ve experienced this year and the debate is now on to decide which vehicle was the stand-out.
The award is judged on key criteria – value for money, safety, functionality, fun and adaptability.
Those eleven Car of the Year finalists (in alphabetical order) are:
- BMW i3
- BMW M2
- Holden Spark
- Honda Civic
- Jaguar F-PACE
- Kia Optima GT
- Kia Sportage
- Mazda CX-9
- Mercedes-Benz E-Class
- Peugeot 308 GTI
- Tesla Model S
Behind the Wheel Editor, Joel Helmes, says he has never seen such a strong field of Car of the Year contenders.
“Most years choosing a stand-out vehicle comes down to a handful of models, however in 2016 the number of quality new or improved new cars on the market has left us with a far more difficult job.
“Ranging from the budget-priced Holden Spark, all the way up to the Tesla, these are some really well thought-out and nicely executed vehicles.”
We will announce our 2016 Car of the Year award winner in early December.
