Chinese earn Five Star rating

MG GS gains full marks

MG GS Five Star rating

The revived brand MG has earned a 5 Star ANCAP safety rating for the MG GS, making it the first Chinese made car to do so.

The vehicle safety tester has elevated the status of the GS SUV from four to five stars after a specification upgrade by MG and an improved pole crash test.

The news is a boost for the model which was launched back in March and a first for the Chinese brand.

ANCAP Chief Executive Officer, Mr James Goodwin says this is a great improvement for the MG GS and applied to all models bought from October 2017 onwards.

“We initially assessed this model earlier this year and saw that while structurally it offered sound levels of occupant protection, its safety specification did not meet what is now expected as a minimum for a 5 star car.”

“MG must be commended for upgrading this model and this achievement raises the bar for other similar brands entering the very competitive Australian market.”
