Infiniti captures 40’s race car spirit
Don’t head off to your Infiniti dealer looking to put a deposit down on this one – not surprisingly, it’s just a concept.
But still, it’s pretty cool, isn’t it?
Unveiled this week ahead of an official showing at the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the car is described by Infiniti as a sleek, open-wheeled electric retro roadster prototype.
Called Prototype 9, Global Design chief at Nissan/Infiniti, Alfonso Albaisa, says the car pays tribute to the classic open-wheeled race cars of the 1940’s.
“It started as a discussion: What if Infiniti had created a race car in the 1940s? If so, what would that look like?
“The sketches were stunning and the idea so compelling that we had to produce a prototype.
“As other departments became aware of this, they volunteered their time to create a working vehicle.”
