Mercedes-Benz has claimed bragging rights over compatriots Audi and BMW in the sales race in 2017, now comes a pat on the back for the three-pointed star from local customers.

The J.D. Power 2017 Australia Sales Satisfaction Index for luxury brands has just been released and sitting at the top was Mercedes-Benz.

The study examines six factors that contribute to overall customer satisfaction with the new-vehicle purchase experience:

  • Salesperson
  • Deal
  • Delivery timing
  • Delivery process
  • Dealer facility
  • Sales initiation

Interestingly, just three brands were ranked in the luxury segment and it was Mercedes-Benz that had impressed car buyers the most.

Of the 405 new vehicle owners surveyed, Mercedes-Benz finished with a total score out of 1000 of 849.

Audi finished second with a score of 818 and BMW with 782.

Some of the interesting findings out of the survey included the possibility that the salespeople working for luxury car dealerships may be a little too pushy.

34% of the new-vehicle buyers said they experienced sales pressure by their salesperson, while among buyers of non-luxury car brands that percentage was only 27%.

While, and perhaps most interestingly, among the luxury car buyers 28% were unsure of which car make or model they would buy when they entered they first started to shop for a new car.
