2017 Toyota Kluger GXL Road Test and Review…
It’s been one of the most popular choices among Aussie families for a number of years now and now the 2017 Toyota Kluger boasts updated styling, more efficient engine and improved interior.
The end result is extremely impressive.
The Toyota seven-seat SUV has always had an issue, fuel economy – but I can report after my week in a Kluger GXL that the tweaks Toyota made to the V6 petrol unit have paid off.
I averaged a very reasonable 10.9L/100km in my time in the Kluger.
The engine produces 218kW/350Nm and while the power comes on gradually, it certainly doesn’t want for any extra acceleration, or grunt, while on the highway/tackling hills.
The updated styling looks terrific too, and the Kluger, as always, provides heaps of space on the inside.
A fantastic addition is also this lower dashboard shelf (as you can see below).
This is such a simple, but such effective addition and we have to give full marks to Toyota for it.
Clear, large gauges, ultra comfortable seats, roof-mounted DVD unit, huge centre console storage area, there isn’t much not to like about it.
Perhaps, if you wanted to nitpick, you could say that the Toyota Kluger is a bit soft and floaty in its ride and handling and the steering might not be as sharp as the Mazda, all this is not a surprise given its a U.S. built vehicle though.
Comfortable, roomy, a good tourer, easy drive around town, full five-star ANCAP safety rating, the Kluger is now a much more efficient vehicle and that makes it a clear must drive proposition if a seven-seater is on your shopping list.
