2017 Mercedes-AMG GT R pricing released

Arriving on our shores in the middle of the year will be the latest sporty Mercedes-AMG, but it won’t come cheap.

Mercedes-Benz have confirmed Australian pricing for the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT R starting at $349,000 before on road costs.

Specifications and options will be revealed before the official launch in July.

Borrowing inspiration from the Mercedes-AMG GT3 race car, the AMG GT R possesses the same driving dynamic but built for the consumer for use on the road or the track.

Fitted with a twin-turbo, 430kW, V8 engine it’s capable of 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 318km/h.

A new AMG traction control system operated by a rotary switch on the centre console will allow drivers to pre-select the slip on the driven rear axle up to nine levels, giving the pilot more control of the vehicle.

On top of that, the aerodynamics can be enhanced at high speeds with a carbon fibre element on the undercarriage that shifts down by 40mm, changing the airflow under the vehicle thereby making the AMG stick harder to the road.

This will occur at over 120km/h in Comfort, Sport or Sport Plus modes and at just 80km/h in Race mode.

Also replicated from the GT3 is the distinctive grille with vertical fins and the GT R will be available in a new loud ‘green hell magno’ colour.

CEO of Mercedes-AMG Tobias Moers says the Mercedes-AMG GT R offers the best of both worlds in a production vehicle.

“We have reached the next level of driving performance modifying all performance-relevant components and linked them together intelligently for maximum driving dynamics.”

“The AMG GT R offers an ultimate driving experience that allows people to feel our motorsport origins in every fibre.”
