2016 Kia Optima GT Review

Kia Optima GT road test and review…

2016 Kia Optima GT Review

Almost everything Kia touches seem to turn to gold with many well put together products in their line up.

And the 2016 Kia Optima GT continues that trend putting up a good case for Car of the Year.

I was thrilled to hop back into one for the first time since the Australian launch in November behind the wheel of the range topping GT with the beefier 2.0L turbo engine.

The Kia Optima GT is the perfect package.

It makes a great family car – you get all the features you could need, a roomy interior and sophisticated styling with some extra performance thrown in to boot.

2016 Kia Optima GT ReviewYours truly is starting a family soon and would recommend this car for anyone in a similar position.

Exclusive to the Optima GT are a list of features as long as your arm:

  • 18” alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres
  • Blind spot detection, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert
  • Smart key and push button start
  • Tyre pressure monitor
  • 8” touch screen and 10 speaker sound
  • LED fog lights
  • Adaptive front lighting
  • Ventilated and heated front seats
  • Leather seats with contrast stitching and GHT logo
  • 8 way powers seat
  • Seating position memory
  • HID headlamps and washers
  • LED combo rear lights
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Heated sports steering wheel with GT logo
  • Alloy sports pedals door scuff
  • Rear door blinds
  • Auto release trunk
  • Wireless phone charger

All of this is packaged in a sleek, classy shell highlighted by aggressive sports bumpers, black side sills, twin exhausts and red brake callipers.

2016 Kia Optima GT ReviewRefinement extends to the cabin with Euro-grade styling throughout from the dash and switchgear to the seats and doors.

Seats come with a standard smooth black leather trim garnered by red stitching.

The high quality interior is further enhanced by the striking burgundy leather option  in this model.

From the driver’s seat, the experience is satisfying with easy to use controls, drivers assist tech, driver info display with plenty of info and a smooth leather steering wheel giving you dynamic control of the vehicle in three drive modes.

As in my previous road test, the Optima GT did use up a bit more fuel at 10L/100km from the 2.0 litre turbo engine but you’ll be enjoying the ride too much to care.

Response is instantaneous especially in the top driving mode with smooth acceleration and no discernible lag all while you ride quietly and well insulated thanks to the compliant suspension.

2016 Kia Optima GT ReviewSimilar in style to the Hyundai Sonata (shares the same engine spec) I still prefer the Kia personally solely based on the interior dashboard design and the drive dynamics. But each to their own.

The Kia Optima is priced from $43,990 and naturally comes with the three ‘sevens’ – 7 year unlimited km warranty, 7 year capped price servicing and 7 year roadside assist.

Look no further than the 2016 Kia Optima GT for a comprehensive family car complete with technology and comfort features, sophisticated styling and spaciousness. You can guarantee and quiet and comfortable ride and not to mention, some extra grunt if you please.
