The highly anticipated 2016 Jaguar F-Pace has launched in Australia meeting and perhaps exceeding all expectations.
He hasn’t disappointed with Jaguar’s first ever SUV.
Even more handsome in the metal than it is in pictures, the F-Pace is almost guaranteed to become Jaguar’s best selling model ever.
At the Australian launch in Byron Bay, Jaguar set out a drive route through some scenic and rather challenging roads that highlighted the competence and prowess of the all-new Jag.
The handling of the F-Pace is a real stand out. Poised, confident and pretty much unflappable, the F-Pace feels like a genuine sports car.
Underpinning the F-Pace is the same suspension found in Jaguar’s stunning F-Type, albeit beefed up a bit to handle extra load, but the result is a car that is really satisfying to drive.
The steering too is rewarding and confidence inspiring. With really sharp turn in and providing plenty of feedback, the rack speeds up the more you turn and it’s perfectly weighted.
There are three engines on offer. A 2.0 litre turbo diesel developing 132kW and 430Nm, a 3.0 turbo diesel developing 221kW and 700Nm, and a 3.0 litre supercharged V6 in two states of tune, 250kW and 450Nm, and 280kW and 450Nm.
It’s fast too, the 280kW V6 can sprint to 100km/h in just 5.5 seconds.
The 3.0 litre diesel is no slouch either dispatching 100km/h in just 6.2 seconds.
All the engines are mated to a brilliant 8-Speed automatic with sports mode, and manual mode via steering wheel mounted paddles.
I found the 3.0 litre diesel the most satisfying thanks to the locomotive like 700Nm. Its urgent and breathtakingly rapid.
The little 2.0 litre Ingenium diesel, likely to be the biggest selling model, is also a great unit. Quiet and refined, it pushes the F-Pace along with ease.
The V6 sounds brilliant and is blisteringly fast. It loves to rev and is undoubtedly the drivers pick.
The interior packaging is clever and provides heaps of space. The sloping roofline doesn’t encroach on the headroom, there’s loads of legroom in the back, and the cargo area is class leading with 508 litres.
It’s beautifully finished with high quality materials and a great build quality.

Rest assured, you’ll see plenty of F-Pace’s on Australian roads. You’d better be quick though, there’s likely to be a lengthy wait for an F-Pace once word gets out.
