2016 BMW X1 gets safety tick

The new 2016 BMW X1 compact SUV looks set to continue to boast a maximum Australian safety rating.

News in from the US this morning is that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has named the 2016 BMW X1 a “Top Safety Pick+”, the Institute’s highest rating.

The IIHS telling us that its testing found that the new X1 earned good ratings in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests.

And that the BMW X1’s new body and structure design boosted its performance in the small overlap front crash test, earning a “good” rating.

While safety tech in the X1, such as front crash prevention, Dynamic Stability Control, Cornering Brake Control and Dynamic Traction Control were all welcomed by IIHS.

The BMW X1 range in Australia is priced from $49,500.
