2014 Car Product of the Year Finalists

Joel Helmes and Simon Lai list their favourite car products of 2014.

2014 Car Product of the Year Finalists
We have reviewed all sorts of different car related products this year.

We love bringing you our car reviews of all the latest new models through the year and late last year we also started road testing products and accessories for your car.

Thus, we thought it a good idea to have an annual Behind the Wheel Car Product of the Year award to go along with our Car of the Year prize.

Here are our six finalists for 2014 Car Product of the Year:

Gator HD DVR 720P Car Camcorder

2014 Car Product of the Year Finalists
Finalist – Gator Car Camcorders.

The 720p resolution is our selection from the Gator Car Camcorder range. This mid-spec unit is a great average choice with decent image quality, affordable price and easy to use functions. The 720p also has an option for a rear camera allowing you to record what’s happening both in front and behind.

2014 Navman GPS Range

2014 Car Product of the Year Finalists
Finalist – Navman GPS range.

We got to road test a selection of GPS units from Navman this year and each time we were impressed by how much they deliver for such a small outlay. With units that have built-in Bluetooth, live speed and traffic updates, even info on where to eat, stay and refuel – each Navman unit was easy to use, rugged and very handy to have. Oh, and they’ll even help you find your destination!

Aerpro Charge and Store

2014 Car Product of the Year Finalists
Finalist – Aerpro Charge and Store.

The Charge and Store by Aerpro only scrapped its way onto the shortlist by the skin of its teeth. Technically not a car accessory, save for the fact it is a key-ring. This multi-purpose key-ring can store data, transfer data and recharge your phone on the go. Available for both Apple and Android smartphones. This unit is ingenious, simple and practical.

T-Cut Headlight Restoration Kit

2014 Car Product of the Year Finalists
Finalist – T-Cut Headlight Restoration Kit.

There seems to be one deficiency in today’s modern cars – those plastic headlight lenses that just about every new car now has tend to deteriorate very quickly. The T-Cut Headlight Restoration Kit quickly and easily removed that dull, hazy and unattractive coating, restoring our test headlight to a smooth, clear and impressive ‘as new’ finish.

Powerall Portable Power Bank

2014 Car Product of the Year Finalists
Finalist – Powerall Portable Power Bank.

Another charger on our list – more suited to the boot of your car for those little emergencies. The Powerall Portable Power Bank can charge two phones at a time with a range of interchangeable connectors or any electronic device. It also functions as a very bright torch but what’s really amazing is its capacity to jump start a car battery. As the name suggests it does power all.

Gator Tyre Pressure Monitor

2014 Car Product of the Year Finalists
Gator Tyre Pressure Monitor.

How often do you check your tyre air pressure? Not many people do it religiously and that means there a very large percentage of cars are running around on underinflated and overinflated tyres. The Gator Tyre Pressure Monitor gives you real time air pressure and tyre temperature information in the comfort of your cars cabin. Easy to install and use, this is a very handy and interesting product.
