Volkswagen reports increased sales in May 2017

Sales up 3.5% globally for Volkswagen in May…

Volkswagen has been through hell, but the German auto giants are continuing to make up for lost time over the past 18 months.

Volkswagen Group has just reported that its Volkswagen brand delivered 513,500 vehicles to owners across the globe in May 2017, that number represents a 3.5% improvement over the same month last year.

There were strong sales gains in a number of key markets, including:

  • Europe +6.7%
  • South America + 14.7%
  • Asia Pacific + 2.8%

While North America went backwards slightly, Volkswagen recording 51,600 sales there in the month, a drop of 1.9%.

For the year to date, Volkswagen global sales are down 0.4% with 2.432 million vehicles handed over.

In Australia in May, Volkswagen had a memorable 11.3% increase in sales on the back of strong demand for the Jetta (75.0%), Touareg (27.9%), Transporter (+18.3%) and Caddy (138.9%).

Sales chief at Volkswagen (global), Jürgen Stackmann, welcomed the strong results.

“May was a successful month for the Volkswagen brand.

“We continued our SUV offensive with the successful launch of the Atlas, thus making our debut in an important segment in the USA.

“Further new models will reinforce this positive momentum in the coming months.”
