Volkswagen Group grew popularity in 2016

2016 was the very definition of a mixed year for Volkswagen – the auto giants still battled their way through the fall-out from the diesel emissions scandal, but also managed to sell a whole lot of vehicles!

Global sales data shows the Volkswagen Group, including brands Volkswagen, Skoda, Porsche, Audi, SEAT and truck brands MAN and Scania, delivered 10.3 million vehicles in 2016.

That figure represents a healthy 3.8% increase on the businesses 2015 result.

In Australia, Volkswagen sales last year slipped 6.1%, but there was better news for Audi (+5.1%) and Skoda (0.2%).

2016 Car Sales Data – Volkswagen Group:

  • Volkswagen Passenger Cars – 5,987, 800 (+2.8%)
  • Audi – 1,871,300 (+3.8%)
  • Skoda – 1,127,700 (+6.8%)
  • SEAT – 410,200 (+2.6%)
  • Porsche – 237,800 (+5.6%)
  • Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles – 480,100 (+11.4%)
  • MAN – 102,200 (-0.2%)
  • Scania – 80,800 (+5.5%)

Matthias Müller, CEO of the Volkswagen Group, welcomed the solid 2016 results.

“2016 was a very challenging year for us. We made strides in resolving and overcoming the diesel crisis and at the same time initiated a fundamental change process with ‘Together – Strategy 2025′ to get Volkswagen ready for the future of mobility.

“Nonetheless, we managed to stabilize operating business in difficult conditions: the fact that we handed over more than 10 million vehicles to customers last year bolsters the Group and its brands as we head for the future.”
