Cooper S 970 ‘S’ goes under hammer
When it comes to classic MINIs this is one many collectors would love to have in their garage – a 1964 Cooper S 970 ‘S’.
Set to go to auction in the UK next month, the MINI is expected to go for up to $85,000 AUD.
The homologation special was created to qualify the Cooper S for the under 1000cc category in racing and rallying and less than a thousand were built.
The car boasts engine and chassis numbers matching logbook records and an extensive history file including homologation papers, heritage certificate and 2004 FIA Historic Technical Passport.
Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions, tells us the car should generate a lot of interest.
“This is a rare and very collectible car,”
“This represents the rarest Cooper S of all time so an original car like this with matching numbers throughout is extraordinary.”
