Uber ditches Otto truck brand name

Otto name won’t be used by Uber for autonomous trucks…

Back in August last year ride-sharing giants Uber purchased the impressive autonomous truck start up Otto (details here), now comes news that name won’t be part of Uber’s future plans.

Forbes reports that Uber has consolidated Otto’s activities under its Advanced Technologies Group, or Uber ATG.

That change will see the Otto name retired, perhaps permanently.

One reason for the change away from Otto could have been a trademark dispute with a business called Clearpath Robotics.

That business builds autonomous vehicles for warehouses and industrial facilities and already has an autonomous vehicle known as ‘Otto’ as seen below…

At this stage, there’s no confirmation of what Uber will rename its autonomous truck technology business, we will keep you updated.
