Engine issue sparks Hyundai i45, Santa Fe recall

A recall of over 9600 Hyundai vehicles sold in Australia has been initiated after a possible engine fault was identified.

The YF series of the now discontinued Hyundai i45 (seen above) is affected, along with the DM series of the Hyundai Santa Fe (as below).

All of the affected Hyundai vehicles were fitted with the 2.4 GDi petrol engine.

Being overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), the recall notice advises that the defect surrounds the possibility of debris contamination during the assembly of engine units.

What are the hazards?

Prolonged running of the engine with contaminants may cause engine failure, resulting in the vehicle stopping suddenly.

This may increase the risk of a crash.

Affected owners will be contacted by direct mail and asked to contact their nearest Hyundai dealer to arrange an inspection and repair of the vehicle.
