Things looking brighter for Western Star Trucks

Sales up and healthy forward orders for Western Star Trucks…

There had been some concerns about the viability of Western Star Trucks in Australia as sales slid to particularly disappointing levels, particularly through 2016.

The slowdown even prompted Penske Commercial Vehicles boss, Roger Penske, to address the issue at a media event last year (details here).

But the good news for the U.S. truck brand is that things are starting to look brighter.

Western Star Trucks delivered 36 vehicles to Australian customers in April, that total up from just 21 trucks in April 2016.

Sales across the first four months of the year are down 4.9%, however Penske Commercial Vehicles Sales Manager – Western Star Trucks, Dale Christensen, tells us that should turn around in coming months.

“Our pipeline of sales for Western Star Trucks is the best we have seen for some time,”

“From the 2800SS to the 6900FXC, we have a great range with Western Star Trucks so we are confident that the future is bright.”

One significant change expected to continue driving the reinvigoration is a shift behind the scenes that sees Penske Power Systems take over dealership responsibilities for the brand.

This includes the arrival of new dealerships in Mackay, Townsville, Darwin and Cairns.

Dale says the change has been just what was needed.

“Our team has really embraced Penske’s ‘customers first’ approach – we’re excited to work with our customers and dealers across our network, providing customers with the solutions that fit their needs.

“We are starting to reap the rewards from all the hard work.”
