5.2 million sales to end of June

Volkswagen is well on track to achieve 10 million vehicles sales across the globe in 2017.

Sales data has just been released by the Volkswagen Group showing just under 5.2 million global vehicle deliveries for their brands across the first half of the year.

That total represents a 0.8% increase on the same period in 2016.

The period finished strongly with Volkswagen’s June sales total of 920,700 being a strong 4.2% jump on the same month a year ago.

“June was a very strong month for the Group and all brands improved deliveries compared with the previous year,” said Fred Kappler, Sales chief at Volkswagen.

“Stable growth in core regions gives us reason to look forward with confidence to the second half of the year.”

Europe (+3.5%) and North America (+9.1%) have been strong regions for Volkswagen thus far this year.

However our region, the Asia-Pacific, is down (-2.7%), Volkswagen tell us this is mostly due to a slow start to the year recorded in the first three months of the year in China.

In Australia, VFACTS data shows across the first six-months of the year, Volkswagen sales included a small dip for the Volkswagen brand (-2.3%), local Audi sales retreated (-12%), but Skoda sales were in the positive(+6.5%).

Mirroring the global results, MAN and Scania recorded strong sales increases locally, MAN by nearly 185% and Scania by just under 65%.

Volkswagen Brand Deliveries First Half 2017:

  • Volkswagen Passenger Cars – 2,935,100 (+0.3)
  • Audi – 909,000 (-4.7%)
  • Skoda – 585,000 (+2.8%)
  • SEAT – 246,500 (+13.7%)
