Volvo SUV affected by pre-tensioner issue
A recall of some MY17 Volvo XC90 SUVs has been initiated after a possibly dangerous issue was identified in the third-row seatbelts.
Affecting only Volvo SUVs fitted with seven seats, those vehicles carry a VIN between the range – 133955 and 143647.
Being overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), the recall notice advises that the seat belt pre-tensioner, on the right-hand side in the third row passenger seat may have been produced with an incorrect production parameter.
The seat belt will operate as intended, however, a very small part of the pre-tensioner may detach during a crash.
What are the hazards?
If the part detaches during a crash it may bounce into the passenger compartment, increasing the risk of injury to vehicle occupants.
Affected Volvo XC90 owners are being asked to contact their nearest Volvo dealer and arrange for the right hand third row seat belt to be replaced.
The current Volvo XC90 is no stranger to recalls, the model was affected by an airbag issues in March, more details on those recalls available in our Volvo XC90 News section.
