Plug-in Hybrid MINI Countryman debuts

Amazing fuel economy from new electric MINI model…

2017 will see the arrival in Australia of the first electric-drive MINI models and now comes some further details with the overseas debut of the MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4.

Unveiled officially for the first time in Europe at the weekend, the electric-drive/plug-in hybrid MINI will go on sale overseas mid-year.

It boasts some amazing stats and a unique driveline set-up.

The first MINI plug-in hybrid model features a three-cylinder engine up front, this powers the front wheels, while the electric motor drives the rear wheels.

MINI telling us the system provides the sporty agility of all-wheel drive.

The system utilizes the electric power to get you started, then, after 80km/h, the petrol engine kicks in – however, MINI say you can override the petrol engine and stay in electric mode at higher speeds (up to 125km/h).

In total, up to 165kW of combined petrol/electric power will be on-tap.

The hybrid-electric MINI will boast an electric drive range of up to around 40km and MINI is talking fuel economy as low as just 2.1L/100km.

While not yet officially confirmed for Australia, we will bring you more details on the MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 as they come to hand in our MINI News section.
