New ‘topless’ McLaren hits the market
We got along to the Australian launch of the new McLaren 720S Coupe last week.
While the new McLaren supercar also got a lot of coverage in this week’s Behind the Wheel Podcast.
Now comes the European arrival of the 570S Spider.
The hand-built British car is powered by a 441kW/600Nm 3.8 litre twin-turbocharged McLaren V8 engine.
Featuring a light-weight carbon fibre body, the McLaren is promising buyers a 0-100km/h sprint in just 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 328km/h (315km/h with roof down).
Speaking of that roof, it’s a two-piece unit that can be opened or closed in 15 seconds, at vehicle speeds of up to 40km/h.
Priced in the UK at around $275,000 AUD, Mike Flewitt, CEO of McLaren Automotive, says the new McLaren 570S Spider is an attainable supercar for many buyers.
“This is a convertible without compromise.
“It’s mid-engined layout and carbon fibre chassis guarantee the same thrilling dynamic performance and exceptional driver involvement enjoyed in a 570S Coupe, but with the added attraction of a retractable hard-top that delivers the extra exhilaration of roof-down motoring.”
