INEOS to build next incarnation of the Land Rover Defender

Chemical giant to create 4×4 in the spirit of the Defender…

Land Rover Defender owners are a unique breed and many were disappointed when Jaguar Land Rover decided to pull the pin on production of the traditional and genuine four-wheel drive.

But now INEOS is planning to branch out from petrochemicals and oil products to produce what is says is the purest, most uncompromising 4×4 off-roader.

The company says the new model will not be a replica of the Land Rover Defender but will reflect its spirit and philosophy.

While potential customers, according to the company, will be agriculture and forestry workers, explorers, adventurers and traditional Land Rover Defender fanatics.

Hundreds of millions of dollars will be pumped into the project.

INEOS Chairman Jim Ratcliffe says they saw a gap in the market and see an opportunity to give buyers an alternative to the current crop of cookie-cutter SUVs.

“I am a great admirer of the old Land Rover Defender,”

“We have enormous respect for its off road capability and our new 4×4 has been inspired by it.”

“But whilst our off-roader might share its spirit, our new car will be a major improvement on previous models.”
