GAC’s all-electric SUV on sale now
No, it’s not available in Australia at the moment, however this new SUV from the GAC Motors stable could be the type of EV that really gets some big sales numbers here.
Why? Because it has an excellent electric drive range – up to 310km, and the SUVs lithium battery can be recharged back to 80% capacity in just 30 minutes.
While pricing, based on what buyers in China are being charged, looks extremely reasonable.
The GAC GE3 SUV has just hit the market in China with a starting price of only about $28,000 AUD.
The Chinese car brand’s first self-developed all-electric SUV delivers up to 120kW of power and 290Nm of torque.
GAC Motor wants to achieve two hundred thousand EV sales by 2020.
That goal is part of a push to sell one million vehicles over the next three years and comes just weeks after the brand celebrated it’s one million car milestone.
Yu Jun, president of GAC Motor, is proud of the hybrid and EV developments the company has made so far.
“Since GAC Motor launched the first hybrid vehicle in 2012, our company has mastered the five core technologies in battery, motor, control unit, electro-mechanical coupling systems and system integration, developing new energy vehicles is a key strategy of GAC Motor.
“Launching GE3 is a start and we hope to bring products that meet the future trends while guaranteeing unique driving and riding experience.”
GAC Motors is also planning to introduce an electric drive sedan and SUV models with an electric drive range of up to 500 kilometres and a full recharge time of under 30 minutes.
No word yet on GAC Motors having a crack at the Aussie car market, we will keep you updated though as any further info comes to hand.
