No new-gen i30 wagon for us
Station wagon sales in Australia have tanked in recent years as buyers have increasingly turned to SUVs.
Interestingly though, i30 rival the Holden Astra will soon welcome a ‘sportswagon’ variant and the new Volkswagen Golf 7.5 will also retain a wagon option.
The new-gen Hyundai i30 Tourer looks like a good offering too.
It boasts up to 1650 litres of cargo space (rear seat lowered) and will be offered with a choice of three engines, including a tiny 1.0 litre turbo-petrol unit.
Tony Whitehorn is the President and CEO Hyundai in the UK, he says in that market they’re expecting the new wagon to be very popular.
“Previous generation i30 Tourer models accounted for just over 10% of total i30 sales; however our expectations are that the new one will achieve much closer to a 20% share.
“This is driven by extra standard safety equipment and high specifications.”
